Morning
At 8:30am on sunday morning our bus pulled out of the hopkinton middle high school parking lot and began its journey towards our destination, the Cardigan AMC lodge. An hour later we finally reached it and were greeted by our educators who taught us a new game called bear, trout, mosquito until it was time to go up and get unpacked and changed for the day's activities. The fact that we had to change according to the weather, conditions of the environment is an example of human environment interaction. After everyone was changed and unpacked we met back outside and learned who our educators were going to be, mine was Andy.
Late Morning/Early Afternoon
After we had all gotten into our groups mine decided to play some name games to get to know each other because we were going to be spending the next two days together. Once we were finished with the name games it was already time for lunch. Afterwards we killed some time sketching random objects in the field as we waited for our chaperone to arrive. When our chaperone finally came we set out on a walk/hike along one of the trails behind the lodge. On the hike we stopped to sketch/walk in the stream that ran along the entire trail. We also stopped to play a game where Andy would hide a clip in one of the trees and we had to find it (I was not very good at it). Following, we went to the man made pond which is an example of human environment interaction because humans changed the environment by building the pond there. At the pond we did sketches of tadpoles that were in a developing stage and that was pretty cool. Then, we hiked the low nature loop where we saw moose tracks and dam in the stream that ran along it. The dam is also an example of human environment interaction because people changed the environment by putting the dam there. Once we were finished walking the nature loop it was time for free time and then dinner which was tacos. At dinner we also talked about food waste and to prevent it we should take small portions at first so we new that we would be able to eat it all.
Evening
After dinner it was time for the nighttime activities in the dark. My group started out by talking about how humans are sight reliant so sight is their strongest sense. Afterwards we did a really fun activity where our whole group was blindfolded and then lead into the woods by Andy. Once we reached the woods we unblindfolded ourselves and a did an activity about animals protecting their young from nocturnal animals. Thereafter we went back to the field to do some peaceful stargazing. To end the night Andy did something really cool, he called in a Bard Owl until it was sitting twenty feet away just using his voice. This is and example of HEI because the environment is changing us by making us learn how to call in an owl and just interact with the environment. Overall, that first day at Cardigan was really fun and extremely informational.
